About StoneTree™ Concrete Fence-Walls
StoneTree™ Concrete Fence-Walls are pre-fabricated under strict quality control conditions. The product is manufactured from a high strength concrete mix design that reaches a compressive strength of 4500 to 5000 psi at 28 days. StoneTree™ walls are reinforced with steel. All of the materials are vertically cast, thereby creating a formed finish on both sides of the wall -- there is no "bad" side.
The walls are available in a split-face block design or a dry stacked stone texture. The textured finish is highly defined and extremely natural in appearance, showing the rough and smooth finish of natural stone in a dry stack design. StoneTree™ Concrete Fence-Walls also include a smooth border around the textured area that is both structural in design and helps define the fence-wall in an aesthetic and architecturally designed system. StoneTree™ fence-walls are available in both 6 and 8 foot heights and are manufactured in 15 foot long sections.
Why StoneTree™ is Different
What makes StoneTree™ different from other concrete systems on the market is that this product is the only system that is vertically produced. The column and panel sections are manufactured as one integral wall section, resulting in the ability of the wall to be installed faster and safer than other products. This is achieved by incorporating a proprietary footing design known as Rigid Footing Support. The rigid footing support works as follows: Due to StoneTree's™ modular composition, it does not require a continuous footing for structural support. Because each section is 15 feet apart, a pier footing is constructed at each 15 foot interval that is designed by a structural engineer to meet the local and job site specifications for soil composition and wind load.
About Our Walls
A typical footing dimension in some areas can be 3 feet wide and 4 feet deep for a 6 foot high wall, and 3 feet wide by 5 feet deep for an 8 foot wall. Once the footing has been prepared, a 4 inch steel I-beam is set into the footing, with half of the I-beam in the footing and the other half protruding out of the footing. The usual rule of thumb is that the I-beam will extend to half of the height of the wall. Therefore, a 6 foot wall will require a 6 foot I-beam, half in and half out. The I-beam needs to be constructed plumb and level, 15 feet on center. This is the most complex aspect of the StoneTree™ installation process; once the I-beam is set in place and the footings have cured, the wall sections are ready to be installed.
In each manufactured panel there are two continuous # 5 rebar placed across the top and bottom for additional support. For added strength, reinforcing fibers and/or wire mesh is placed in each panel depending on specific wind code requirements.
The wall sections are usually transported to the fence line by a heavy duty forklift and then set in place. At the column section of the wall there is a 10 inch deep by 5 inch wide slot cast into the column. The slot in the column encapsulates the I-beam, as well as at least 4 inches of the panel portion of the preceding wall section, thus locking the system together. Once in place, the installed section is then checked for level. The final stage of the installation process is to attach the column cap, which is set in place with mortar and/or glue. On a fairly straight forward fence installation, with an experienced crew, 800 to 1000 feet of wall column and panel can be set in a day.
Once the Project is Completed
Once the StoneTree™ installation is complete, the final stage in finishing the wall is coloring. This can be achieved by a variety of techniques based on the level that the customer is looking for. The fastest and most cost effective method is to apply a base colored concrete sealer to the wall using a spray gun, and then applying one to three complimentary colors to accent the stones by sponge or brush. Using a concrete sealer is desirable because it absorbs into the concrete and is not a surface coating. Another method of coloring the wall is to use water base concrete stain. This can be created by mixing iron oxide pigments with water and applying to the wall. Once complete, a clear coat concrete sealer should be applied to protect the finish.
Your Wall Options
There are also other areas for consideration. StoneTree™ walls can be installed with either left or right 90 degree turns. The walls can also be built in areas where there is a grade change. If the grade change is no more than 4 inches in a 15 foot long span, concrete can be removed from the next footing and the panel will key into the slot to meet the I-beam. If the step is greater than 4 inches, the panel end is notched using a concrete saw to reflect the size of the next step. The column section of the wall is always set at the low side of the fence line. If the fence line changes grade direction -- for example, if the wall climbs for a distance and then levels out and then drops down -- at the point where the drop or grade direction change occurs, a free standing column must be used so that the wall section can swing around and change direction, thereby allowing the column side of the wall section to be at the lower side again.
